Architect and designer Utkan Gunerkan established his own studio in 2017, a creative space where his unique vision and philosophy come to life. Behind each of his works lies a profound meaning and a pursuit of perfection. Gunerkan takes us on a journey through his creative thought processes, his sources of inspiration and one of his most recent projects.
Born in Istanbul and shaped by his time in Milan, designer Utkan Gunerkan gained a wealth of cultural influences that shaped his design aesthetic. His passion for 3D rendering was the spark that ignited his imagination and made him dream of new worlds beyond reality. But it is not just the digital possibilities that inspire him; on a daily basis, he also draws his creative energy from discovering inspiring projects on social media.
A setting that is both pastel-coloured and eco-friendly
This promising project is one of Gunerkan's most recent creations, located in enchanting Canggu, Bali. This residential villa is a fusion of natural elements, local materials and sophisticated design. Although the architectural foundation had already been laid by the client, what was lacking was an interior vision that would bring the space to life. He was challenged to create an environment that was both pastel-coloured and eco-friendly, which led to the use of mineral paints and natural materials throughout the interior.
The villa, with its rectangular shape, offers a spacious and open living space in which the kitchen, dining room and living room blend seamlessly. Every detail has been carefully considered, from the sculptural mirror connecting the kitchen and dining room to the thoughtful selection of furniture designed by local artisans. The result is a harmonious space that exudes tranquillity and reinforces the connection with the surrounding natural environment. Upstairs are two more bathrooms and a gallery space, accessed via a sculptural staircase illuminated by a skylight. The project is a tribute to Gunerkan's dedication to craftsmanship, innovation and respect for the environment in which he works. His studio remains a hotbed of creativity and inspiration, where he constantly strives to reach new heights in the design field."
