In the heart of Indian Wells Country Club, tucked away amid the breathtaking landscapes of greater Palm Springs, is a hidden gem. A modern home that bears witness to the appeal of Californian living. Built in 1960 and recently revived by a complete renovation in 2022, Casa Sand Dune is a single-level home that seamlessly blends the best of mid-century design with the tranquil beauty of the desert.
On the edge of the beautiful golf course, it has become a cherished retreat for a Canadian couple and their three children. For interior designer Stephanie Brown, creating Casa Sand Dune was an exciting adventure marked by a deep appreciation for the mid-century, modern aesthetic of Palm Springs and the 'oasis' of Indian Wells. The owners had a vision - to create a dream vacation home that unites the spirit of Californian living with modern conveniences.
The interiors exude warmth, serenity and cleanliness. The main surfaces, including the walls, floors and countertops, are cloaked in soft parchment tones, complemented by the richness of warm walnut and accents of brass. This consistent, muted palette, along with minimalist details, promotes a spacious and serene atmosphere, while layered textures add an inviting touch.
Uniting the spirit of Californian living with modern conveniences.
Looking for inspiration beyond the conventional Palm Springs style, Brown and her team embarked on a journey inspired by modern architecture in Mexico and Australia. These locations have a beautiful minimalist aesthetic, with monochrome palettes and natural materials such as textured stone and warm wood playing an important role. This global influence helped shape the unique character of Casa Sand Dune. The scorching desert climate and the seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living dictated the choice of materials in Casa Sand Dune. For example, large porcelain tiles adorn the floors, providing a cool and durable surface. The bathrooms show off subtle shifts with a soft terrazzo marble tile in the main bathroom.Furthermore, melamine walnut cabinets were also chosen for their resistance to extreme heat and sunshine.
The synergy between the owners and Stephanie Brown resulted in a perfectly aligned vision. The neutral colour scheme exudes calm and sophistication, a fresh take on the traditional mid-century style often associated with vibrant hues and striking patterns in Palm Springs.Lovingly, both the owners and the interior designer have named this vision "Casa Sand Dune”. In every corner, the spirit of Californian living, mid-century modern design and the serenity of the desert come together in a harmonious symphony. This hidden gem in the Indian Wells Country Club is more than just a holiday home; it is a testament to the art of creating a dream oasis where memories are made and peace is found.
