Dieter Vander Velpen, an architect from Leuven, is leaving a worldwide mark with his 'couture architecture.' Although relatively new under his own name, he has already left an impressive footprint in places like New York, Tel Aviv, Geneva, and, of course, Belgium. His signature, known for its strength and style, has not only conquered bathrooms worldwide but also architectural marvels. One of his recent triumphs is the design of the EV House, a private residence near Antwerp. Here, visitors are immersed in a haven of light and tranquillity, where a warm and neutral color palette sets the tone.
We start off in the extra-large kitchen with a sculptural fireplace on a base of Pietra dei Medici natural stone with black steel accents. Carefully considered finishes include oak cabinets, concealing ovens and storage space, while the large Calacatta marble island adds a graphic touch. Sunlight streams in through the large windows, making it the ideal spot for a morning coffee or an afternoon aperitif. The design continues through the living room, past the bar and home office, culminating in an enchanting view of the beautiful gardens. The living room, bathed in natural light from floor-to-ceiling windows, exudes the same cozy atmosphere as the rest of the house. A custom-made oak and marble coffee table, combined with art by Dorothee Loriquet, forms the centrepiece of this sophisticated space. Between the living room and the home office, Vander Velpen created a cozy corner for a bar, with smoked oak cabinets and a sharp marble island as the focal point. Sliding doors with wooden slats add a touch of elegance, while integrated lighting in the shelves creates an intimate atmosphere in the evening. The home office, with custom geometric furniture in smoked oak and marble, provides a perfect conclusion on the ground floor.

The hotel-worthy restroom, featuring a luxurious marble sink, welcomes guests immediately upon entry. The black steel frame of the floating mirror, subtle wooden paneling, and details like the steel soap dish showcase Vander Velpen's attention to detail. A wooden screen elegantly separates the kitchen from the living spaces and entrance. The journey upstairs is guided by a beautiful silver travertine staircase with open pores, adding roughness to the refined design. In the master suite, two freestanding marble bathroom furnishings are combined with black steel accents, resulting in a play of depth and elegance. The privacy-providing wood, previously used on the ground floor, returns as a design element beside the freestanding bathtub. The harmony of design language and material palette extends from architecture to custom-made furniture, creating a serene environment. Dieter Vander Velpen may be proud of this project.
