- Architecture & development
Ananda, a holiday home designed by Pérez Palacios Arquitectos Asociados (PPAA), is set in the lush, forested landscape of Valle de Bravo, Mexico. This architectural masterpiece redefines traditional notions of space and offers a harmonious interplay between the indoor and outdoor worlds. The central axis of the design, the terrace, acts as an architectural element that not only divides spaces but also seamlessly connects them.
Ananda's design is composed of two interconnected volumes that explore the duality and flexibility of space. These are thoughtfully positioned around the terrace, which serves as a transitional area between the interior and exterior. This layout allows the house to unfold in a dynamic way, creating a continuous interaction between the different environments. The terrace itself can transform from a private space for contemplation and tranquillity, to an open space that fuses effortlessly with the surrounding nature. A notable feature of Ananda is its distinctive gabled roof, which not only contributes aesthetically to the whole, but is also functionally adapted to the local climate and landscape. An existing tree on the property was carefully incorporated into the design, creating a dialogue with the natural context of the house and reflecting a deep respect for the environment. All rooms in the house feature large windows that let in abundant natural light and offer unobstructed views of the surrounding garden. Ananda's design is a testament to how architecture can challenge conventions by creating a space that is constantly evolving. Here, the boundaries between public and private blur, and the terrace acts as a connecting and transitional area, reinforcing the relationship between people and nature.

Pérez Palacios Arquitectos Asociados, founded in 2018 by Pablo Pérez Palacios, is a leading architecture studio with a strong focus on exploring the relationship between space, nature and people. The studio works from a philosophy that sees architecture as a process that is constantly influenced by the context in which it is located. This approach has led to an architecture that is not dictated by forms, but by ideas that adapt to each unique situation. PPAA's work has been internationally recognised and acclaimed by leading architecture awards and publications. Their work is characterised by a deep sensitivity to the natural environment, using light, texture and space to create a sensory experience that connects both visitors and the architecture to its surroundings. PPAA pursues an architecture that combines simplicity and strength, carefully defining outdoor spaces without building. This leads to an architectural approach that suggests openness and invites constant interaction between the visitor, the architecture, and the natural environment. Their work reflects a deep understanding of the human experience within a given context, resulting in an architecture that not only shapes, but also creates a meaningful interaction between space and environment.
