Artist Eva Hendriks' delicate and refined work is an intriguing fusion of raw materials and minimalist aesthetics. Born in the Netherlands and currently based there, she creates large, monochrome wall pieces that stimulate the senses with materials such as plaster, wood, steel and sand. Her artworks, tactile and fragile, play with force and are influenced by their interaction with their surroundings and changing natural light conditions.
Everything is in motion,’ proclaims Eva Hendriks, and it is this constant dynamic of life that the artist wants to make tangible and constantly remind us of. In her minimalist creations you will find an interplay of strength and fragility, a reflection of the constant changes around us. Hendriks opens the doors of her studio to give a deeper insight into her artistry. Her journey to artistry began with an upbringing in which art was an integral part. Her mother, who wrote poetry and painted, inspired her creative spirit. With two childhood dreams - to travel the world and go to art school - she undertook an adventurous journey that took her all over the world. Although art was not always her daily work, she continued to draw and paint, absorbing local crafts as a way of understanding the world. Back in the Netherlands, Hendriks focused on real estate transformation and discovered a passion for working with raw materials such as steel, sand and wood. Her first memory of art, a painting inspired by Franz Marc's Blue Horse, dates back to her early childhood. This early exposure laid the foundation for her later artistic development.Travel and the coastline serve as her main sources of inspiration, alongside the materials that cross her path and spark new ideas. In her creative space in Nijmegen, surrounded by garlands of light and overlooking the neighbourhood, Hendriks finds a second home. Her studio, a former shed, provides an inspiring place where she works in the morning, takes care of her children in the afternoon, and works on her artworks again in the evening and at night.
Her art symbolises finding beauty in the details amidst chaos
Her art is a reflection of her personal experiences, imagination and constant search for expression. Her monochrome and calm works, with an emphasis on neutrals, testify to the many layers and structures of life. Her art symbolises finding beauty in the details amidst chaos, like the bioluminescence in the ocean during stormy times. Her dream projects include a large-scale project for a coastal hotel, a designer collaboration and sharing creative energy with fashion designer Iris van Herpen. Eva Hendriks' art is not only a visual experience but also an emotional journey, a reflection of life's constant waves and an invitation to discover beauty amidst the chaos. We are already keeping a close eye on her for undoubtedly more inspiring projects in the future!
