Great design surprises, fascinates, and amuses. These three characteristics are embodied in Les Quatre Soleils, a collection of Frédéric Pellenq at gallery Kolkhoze. Expect sculptural furniture that invites to enter a playful universe. A chance that Imagicasa takes with both hands, and at the same time we tell you all that you want to know about this upcoming designer and the artistic home that received him with open arms for this collaboration.
Lines are meant to be crossed. At least, that is what the work of French talent Frédéric Pellenq suggests. In his creative journey he has decided numerous times to tackle contrasts and their mutual balance. Think, for example, of oversized volumes and minimal constructions that are united in an elegant harmony. After his studies at L’école Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture, he founded his own studio in 2016. Thanks to his competence for woodwork, he organically ended up at his current expertise: design. He always creates beautiful collections in limited editions where he brings furniture and sculptural objects together around a strong narrative. Each design is produced in an edition of merely twelve pieces, and they are made by hand in France. In the meantime, the moment has come for Pellenq to showcase his abilities in Kolkhoze, a gallery in Paris where the air vibrates from the arts. Founders Thibaut Van den Bergh and Thomas Erber decided to bundle their valuable experiences as curators and art directors in the high-end sector. With a fresh perspective on contemporary creations and authentic luxury, the duo succeeds in establishing a successful network. Recently, Kolkhoze presented an exhibition of Pellenq, called Les Quatre Soleils, to the big public. With this attractive collection, the artist convinces us completely of his skills and potential.
A playful universe of lines
The pieces include inviting fauteuils, fun chairs, and beautiful tables. Naturally, dreamy sofas and innovative details cannot be missing. A curious aspect is the returning curved lines; both sofas, armchairs and benches showcase this element. Another specialty is the changing of height lines. That is to say, the Kelly armchair shows that the seating contains a considerable curve that does not only look surprising but is also extremely comfortable. Those who are fan of experimental chairs for the dining table can feast their eyes. Both the George and the Jim Chair are striking because of their irregular shape and make you look twice. Unusual backs are part of the exhibition as well, for example in the Chair Josie Black and the Très Nouvelle chair. Concerning tables, you can sit at the Kelly dining table. This spacious design charms us without holding back due to the wide legs, whereas the Prairie coffee table and side table catch our attention with their striking jagged shapes. In short, this selection offers you diverse design that each call our attention in their own way. By holding on to calm colours such as cream, gray, black, and brown, you are simultaneously ensured that the furniture is perfect to conjure a pleasant atmosphere. Since the collection offers a wide range of furniture pieces and shapes, we can whole-heartedly say that Pellenq captures a lot of hearts with these impressive creations.
