At Project Huysentruyt, by partner Justien Lescouhier, a small apartment was transformed into a serene oasis of peace and space. The challenge in this total renovation was to optimise the limited space and create a spacious feeling. The end result is stunning; the home now feels considerably larger and exudes a calming atmosphere, ideal for complete relaxation.
Interior designer Justine Lescouhier began the project by removing redundant walls, allowing for an open-plan layout. This created a smooth transition between the different living areas, allowing natural light to flow freely through the apartment. The kitchen, dining area and living room are now one harmonious place, enhancing the feeling of openness and space. The choice of materials was crucial to achieve the desired serene atmosphere. Natural and high-quality materials such as wood, linen and natural stone were carefully selected. These materials exude simplicity and quality, which fits perfectly with the calm ambience she wanted to create. Dark brown wood was combined with light beige and greige natural stone, which gave a warm and inviting glimpse. The robust kitchen island, with its cosy look, not only provides additional seating space, but also enhances the functionality of the apartment. The subtle and seamless integration of cabinets adds to the minimalist aesthetic, giving it a luxurious feel without being overwhelming.

Justien Lescouhier’s approach is characterised by a deeply personal approach. She always starts with the client's story. How does their daily life unfold? What are their needs and wishes? These are the questions that guide her in designing an interior that is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also fully tailored to the client's lifestyle. This results in a detailed and well-thought-out plan executed by experienced craftsmen down to the smallest details. Justien, the founder and driving force behind JL, sees design and architecture as more than just an aesthetic choice. For her, they are a source of happiness. She strongly believes in the power of personalisation; it is a conscious move that encapsulates the heart of her work. When clients see her designs, they feel that their story has been understood and translated into a space that makes them happy. As a result, Project Huysentruyt's clients are more than satisfied. They can still hardly believe how their small apartment has been transformed into a spacious and serene retreat, a place where peace and comfort are key. It is the perfect illustration of what is possible when a project is executed with passion, craftsmanship, and a deep understanding of the client. Visuals by Rendeer Visuals

To design a residence that perfectly suits the lifestyle of the clients, an interior architect has to understand what the life of the residents looks like. By listening carefully to them, Justien Lescouhier manages to create projects that evoke a visual tranquillity. Materials with a soul play an important role in this.
