- Interior
Not so long ago, Kato Mees started her eponymous interior design studio, after first spending several years honing her experience at several renowned agencies. Now she works in her own name, based in Antwerp. Although her own business is still in its early stages, she already reflects with precision what she stands for and what types of interiors come naturally to her. We introduce you to her with House SP, a project designed to give busy residents their breathing space at home.
Kato's passion for her craft stemmed from her father, who worked in construction and spent his spare time making furniture. At their holiday home in France, she watched him renovate tirelessly and diligently put the subtlest details in order. After her secondary studies in art education, it was therefore not surprising that she chose interior design.Since obtaining her university degree, she got a feel for working life with some prominent names.Yet from the beginning, her goal was to eventually start her own studio, and so it happened. The future can only bring good things, as the interior designer is eager to make her own portfolio as extensive as possible. Her assignments range from offices and shops to residential renovations and residential new builds. Towards the client, she is intensively unburdened so that the entire process unfolds as smoothly and efficiently as possible. Direct communication and a talent for coordination are indispensable for this. Besides taking on complete projects, you can count on the agency for styling and art direction services. As a common thread, Kato is loyal to her elegant aesthetic, which she achieves, among other things, by consciously working towards tranquillity. This is reflected in her material choices, as well as her timeless compositions.
The breathing space on the ground floor is a surprising continuation of the previously closed façade
House SP was designed for a young and busy family. For them, it was essential to come home to an environment where they could put themselves and their loved ones first. An open living concept was constructed on the ground floor. The resulting breathing space is a surprising continuation of the previously closed front façade. The dining area, kitchen and living room flow smoothly into each other and overlook an inviting garden. There is also an adjacent, intimate patio. There are also visualisations of the upstairs master bedroom, including with a dressing room and en suite bathroom. Again, the view faces the garden and nearby forest. On the street side are the children's bedrooms and an office. However, most of the thinking was required for the kitchen, as the clients had specific wishes for that. For instance, they wanted an inviting place where the family would spend precious moments. Despite the robust size of the island, Kato compensated by keeping the overall proportions refined and elegant. The palette exudes warmth thanks to travertine and smoked oak, for example. The floors are made up of natural stone, so the interior immediately gives you a sense of grounding. More than just a visually pleasing picture, Kato Mees delivered a design concept that enriches residents' lives. Here they can recharge their batteries every day and contemplate the world from their private oasis. Relaxation and quality time alternate pleasantly there. We look forward to hopefully seeing the finished result soon. Until then, the interior designer will undoubtedly throw herself into a series of subsequent assignments.
