Creating breathtaking designs with sustainable undertones that blow your mind with a breeze, American agency MUD does that like the best of them. Their latest Two-Peace house, gleaming in its simplicity among the palm trees in Malibu, California, opens eyes wide. We take you inside this fantastic design that will make you smile uninhibitedly.
The creative studio MUD constructs timeless and innovative projects where the architects know how to create the right overall experience by also lighting up the interiors of their concepts with fantastic designs. The agency is a master of minimalist design and always looks for a serene atmosphere that feels warm at the same time. In doing so, they aim, in their own words, to create spaces that ‘invite the human spirit to find its true essence’. The pure materials they deduce from natural sources and the tactility they play with are thoughtful, shrewd choices. Moreover, they want to understand each client as well as possible so that they can obtain an elegant, sophisticated end result that evokes the right emotions. The studio’s strength lies in the architects' approach to light: ‘The ensemble of light and architecture can create a sense of sacrility. It then seems as if something intangible suddenly enters the room and enhances the whole.’ As a result of their deep love of travel and the diversity of different cultures, the architects enjoyed designing Two-Peace. The beautiful coastal environment served as the basis for the luxurious design: the sandy hues and grainy textures of the beach and the deep yellow colours of the sun the designers used as their biggest inspiration. They also incorporated Malibu's wealth of art, culture and nature into the concept. In short, the house breathes right along with the rhythm of this wonderful place.

The harmony between the building and its surroundings was mainly achieved by the careful selection of colours and matters. They opted for subtle shades and light, earthy materials. Moreover, they liked to integrate just elements with a high tactility into the design. The imperfection of nature and its fleeting character clearly fascinate the architects. You can see this, among other things, when you study the weathered beams in the bathroom. Moreover, you also notice that the office pays a lot of attention to sustainability: every piece of furniture is examined before being incorporated into the design. Finally, MUD's great strength, the fantastic dynamic of light and shadow, plays a leading role in this pared-down whole.
