- Interior
Kine and Kristoffer have carefully and thoughtfully restored the old house in Drammen, Norway, and transformed it into a modern and inviting home, while retaining the property's original charm and authenticity. The project, known as the Ask og Eng house, reflects their vision to create sustainable interiors with timeless character, designed for longevity and made from high-quality, natural materials.
The Ask og Eng house is characterised by the use of muted colours and natural materials, with a particular focus on bamboo, which contributes to a serene and inviting atmosphere. During the renovation, the original floor plan was adapted to create spacious, open-plan rooms that promote a sense of calm and cohesion. The house, which dates back to 1868, is now fully renovated and offers a unique experience of the Ask og Eng collections. Interested parties can explore the house by making an appointment or booking a weekend stay, where they can experience the atmosphere and custom-made furniture up close. The kitchen is the heart of the house and is also where Ask og Eng's journey began. This space has been designed with functionality and aesthetics in mind, with every detail carefully considered. The kitchen combines practical storage and modern appliances with handmade designs and high-quality materials. The walls are finished with a beige lime effect, which contrasts beautifully with the dark brown kitchen cabinets. The countertop connects both colours with a mixed palette of brown and greige. The clean lines, floating shelf, protective wall above the countertop and integrated handles contribute to the serene look of the kitchen. The carefully selected furnishings, such as round wall lamps and organic decorations, enhance the warmth and tranquillity the space exudes.
The Ask og Eng house in Drammen is an invitation to experience a harmonious and sustainable way of life
Together with the kitchen, the living room is designed as a shared and multifunctional space. Here, residents can enjoy each other's company throughout the day, whether lounging, eating or cooking. The room feels bright and spacious, yet retains an intimate atmosphere. This is achieved by combining calm, cool colours with the warmth of ash floors and bamboo furniture, which follows the same clean lines as in the kitchen. The fabrics chosen, such as linen and wool, add an extra layer of comfort and warmth to the space. Raw, natural elements such as clay vases, ceramics and a plastered lamp add a homely and organic finishing touch. The bedrooms are designed for calm and simplicity, with furniture and visual noise kept to a minimum. In the master bedroom, the vaulted ceiling adds to a sense of space and highlights the original beams of the 200-year-old house. Muted colours and soft fabrics create a calming atmosphere, ideal for relaxation and a good night's sleep. Details such as low-hanging night lights and an organic artwork on the wall enhance the room's natural and serene feel. The bathroom is designed like a small spa retreat, with different zones for refreshment and relaxation. Whether one chooses an invigorating shower or a relaxing bath, the space offers a place to unwind and take time for self-care. The materials used, such as light bamboo, lightly textured walls and rough tiles of Norwegian natural stone, have been deliberately chosen to stimulate the senses. The mirror with wooden globes, linen bath towels and copper taps give the bathroom a unique and characterful feel. The Ask og Eng house in Drammen is not only an example of craftsmanship and thoughtful design, but also an invitation to experience a harmonious and sustainable way of life.
