Does this sound familiar? An overloaded agenda at work, flying from one meeting to the next and not getting through your endless mailbox. The pace at which we live is high, way too high. And that is what Gemma Galeno wants to make clear with her new design 'The temple'. With this project, she criticises the mindset we have nowadays: we are running after ourselves at an ubiquitous chaotic pace when we would be better off being in sync with our minds.
As the interior designer noticed herself that her apartment was increasingly becoming a reflection of her chaotic mind, she realised she wanted to change that. Not just for herself, but also for others, because she was sure that she was not the only one taking in the jumble of the outside world. No sooner said than done: her latest project reflects ultimate peace and tranquillity. The temple is the perfect refuge for anyone who wants to take a break from busy life. To create the right atmosphere in the space, she relied on the Japanese wabi sabi philosophy, a state of mind that focuses on imperfection and the power of impermanence. These elements are reflected in the design by using natural materials that are allowed to retain their flaws. Wooden elements add to the ubiquitous beige hue that, like the curved vaults, envelops you with warmth. This beige colour also exudes sobriety that makes living in the 'here and now' very easy.

Sober surroundings give your mind an overview. This is why designer chose a minimalist approach in the temple. Focusing only on the elements that really add value to the design creates an airy environment where breathing space is central. ‘The most important thing in life is not to have the most, but to need the least,’ Galeno believes.
