- Interior
Those who knock on the door of interior designer Jody Eeckhout from JOE Design Studio are assured of a home that puts warm simplicity first. Add to this some contemporary pieces and a well-thought-out use of colours and you have a result that we definitely want to show you here.
This residence in Bonheiden, Belgium, is located in a pine forest, and of course that location had to be emphasised as much as possible. In the rear façade, a lot of glass was provided to draw the outdoor feeling inside and vice versa. That idea is reinforced by concealing the window profiles in the floor and ceiling and letting the natural stone continue towards the terrace. The high ceilings emphasise the spatial effect of the glass rear façade, because of which the distinction between inside and outside almost disappears and the interior enjoys plenty of natural light. In turn, the cantilevered terrace provides enough privacy without taking away the beautiful view of the woods. In the living room, the oak parquet flooring brings a soft, calm effect. The bespoke furniture was done in walnut and accented with ceppo di Sabia. By staying in the same colour palette and mainly choosing warm brown shades and light white tones, all elements blend together and create a very serene interior. The large eyecatcher in the living room is the open fireplace, around which a special bookcase has been built that is illuminated in the right places and enhances its unique shapes.

The kitchen is very spacious and provides all necessary comfort. A long table seats up to eight people, while a smaller, round table next to the kitchen island can be used for more informal gatherings and is perfect, for instance, as a breakfast spot. As in the rest of the interior, sleek lines bring a feeling of simplicity, sometimes interspersed with rounded forms. At the front of the house, we find a desk, which bathes in natural light and functions as a convenient home office. Thanks to the light base in this interior, the furniture and bespoke work, both in warm shades, can shine extra bright. The spaces feel contemporary and timeless, but also ensure enough comfort and a feeling of intimacy. This project fits perfectly into JOE Design Studio’s portfolio, but it does not compromise on uniqueness.
