Norm Architects is no stranger to the Imagicasa website. This shouldn’t come as a surprise as the Danish architecture studio is a master in designing minimalist homes. This time it was project from last summer that caught our attention. It concerns a house with a phenomenal view on the border between Denmark and Germany.
Fjord Boat House is a modest wooden house with a view of the sea. The house is clad with black wooden boards so it doesn’t blend in with nature but doesn’t stand out either. It seems to live in harmony with the surrounding greenery. The floor of Fjord Boat House consists of handmade ceramic stones. These are located both outside on the terrace and inside the house. They give the whole a rustic atmosphere and invite the surroundings to come inside.
Norm Architects uses a 'Skandijapanese' style.
The walls of the interior and the built-in furniture are entirely made of one kind of wood. This creates an extreme sense of uniformity while mimicking the intimacy of a small boat or sauna. The two bedrooms are inspired by a cabin. They are small, intimate and you pretty much have to crawl into them. These rooms are illuminated by skylights. In the remaining rooms Norm Architects uses light elements designed by themselves for Archipelago House, a project in Sweden. The 'Koku' table, a piece of furniture inspired by Norm Architects' travels to Shikoku in Japan, was also placed in the house. A neutral colour palette and natural materials create a cosy, comfortable retreat, a home where you can escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Norm Architects uses a 'Skandijapanese' style which has helped them win over many hearts already. All in all, we can conclude that Norm Architects has once again created a beautiful design that combines modesty and craftsmanship. Photography by Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen
