Sincere and full of passion. That is the motto of the Spanish design studio Burondo that has already realised numerous projects on its own soil. Since a few years, the studio presents their vision on architecture and interior design to the outside world. Imagicasa spoke with Beatriz Blanco, one of the founders and half of the sister duo behind the studio.
What sparked your passion to create?
‘We have always been sensitive to beautiful things and our family has always been a big influence. My sister and I unfortunately couldn't spend that much time with our grandparents Maria and Adolfo, but they continue to inspire us every day. Besides being an inventor, our grandfather was the first in our family to devote himself to architecture. That the passion for creating runs through our veins is certainly proven by this.’
How would you describe your projects and style?
‘Honest, timeless and calm. Warm minimalism with a soul is at the heart of everything. In our projects you can always see our meticulousness, elegance and professionalism. Our Instagram page, where we post daily, is a good representation of this.’ What do you think is the strength of Burondo?
‘Passion and fun. My sister and I are not only business partners but also best friends. I think our customers can notice how much we enjoy what we do. They also say that when you find the job of a lifetime, it's like you don't have to work another day. And that's kind of how we feel every day.’
What is your favourite part of the design process?
‘One of our favourite parts is the moment when you first show a client all the potential their home has. The beginning of an exciting journey.’
Do clients come to Burondo with a very clear vision or do you also often give a lot of input? How exactly does that process work?
‘Our clients often come to us because they know our work and they usually share the same values, so it's quite easy to understand each other. But the challenge always remains seeing how we can apply all the things we like to the specific details of their home.’
‘In our projects you can always see our meticulousness, elegance and professionalism'
Why is consideration for the environment in the materials used so important to Burondo?
‘We like to be honest with our customers about the materials we use. Every material has a meaning and a function, and we love the beauty of natural materials. Being conscious and responsible about the impact on the environment is key for Burondo and we always try to use local materials and be responsible in our choices.’
What is the ultimate dream for the future?
‘To find a nice piece of land and build our own two houses in the countryside in the mountains of Alicante. The houses would have a joint large garden. That is really our ultimate dream.’ What a nice plan! And a nice ending to our interview. We got a broader look into the life of Beatriz Blanco and learned more about the philosophy behind Burondo. Imagicasa will keep an eye on Burondo for more of their beautiful projects in the future.
