Davidov Architects amazes us with its latest design, EPSC Residence. A contemporary farmhouse so thoughtfully planned and carefully detailed that architecture and interior unite to form a sanctuary in the landscape.
The ambition of Davidov Architects is the pursuit of timelessness. As a design studio, they work closely with their clients to achieve a result that simply enhances and supports their lifestyle. The designs of Davidov Architects are recognisable by their restrained character and sense of sustainability.
The sophisticated colour palette was the key to refined aesthetics.
One of the main design principles of the home was to create a play between excitement and distraction, a journey and experience that winds its way through the landscape. The unveiling of the views at key vantage points begins long before you set foot inside, which has everything to do with the experience of the project. The surrounding area, with dense forests that run into a vast hilly meadow, brings you to the house. The design called EPSC Residence is located on a steep slope and surrounded by a fairytale vineyard. A long featureless wall with the outlines of two large brick chimneys becomes the marker in the landscape. Once inside, the solidity and pressure experienced at the threshold contrast with the layout of the rooms, which are oriented to look out over the vineyards and the courtyard. Each room flows from one into the other and offers a view through to the room behind it. The different rooms can be screened off with sliding doors to create a sense of cosiness and intimacy, while maintaining the visual connection between the internal spaces and the external courtyards. Large doors and windows frame the landscape and offer a spatial experience inside the house. Davidov Architects chose a materiality of architecture that is singular and monolithic in its execution. The pale white brickwork was used for the various retaining walls of the building, the colonnade and is also incorporated into many of the internal walls to create a unique building mass, surrounded by the landscape. The sophisticated colour palette was key to achieving the farmhouse's refined aesthetics, but even more important is the choice of their durability and timelessness. EPSC Residence was carefully planned and detailed to connect the architecture and interior (designed by Hecker Guthrie) to create a home that meets the needs of its clients and enhances their daily rituals. The result is a sustainable piece of architecture that responds to its surroundings. Want to get enchanted by more impressive projects and inspiring architecture?
