Renovating often means establishing a clear identity. This project by Studiovlach, called Oberkampf, speaks for itself. The succession of different owners had led to a kind of hybrid style without a clear focus, and the current residents wanted to put an end to this. Taking a new direction proved to be the right choice, because the result perfectly matches the idea they had in mind.
Studiovlach is a design agency that develops personalised concepts and high-quality renders. Their specialisation is creating customised spaces, ranging from apartments and houses to restaurant or boutique concepts and scenography. Furthermore, the team designs furniture made by qualified craftsmen. The common denominator is undoubtedly a minimalist and contemporary style where simple forms guarantee interesting compositions. High quality is always ensured through the use of noble and durable materials. This apartment is located in Paris, more precisely in the neighbourhood of Le Marais, and is a duplex with an area of 154 square metres. Over the years, it has had several owners, each of whom has carried out partial renovations, and the whole thing has lacked an overarching style and vision. The young couple who now call it home asked interior design agency Studiovlach to provide a complete renovation that would bring out the full potential of their apartment. At the same time, they wanted an overarching contemporary style that retains an authentic feel. By experimenting with different layouts and comparing colour contrasts with wood textures, Studiovlach and the clients arrived at a calming atmosphere composed of natural materials.

The living areas are on the ground floor, so of course the bedrooms and bathrooms are upstairs. Downstairs in the hall, your eye is immediately drawn to vertical wood patterns that were made to measure. Thanks to these patterns, the four adjoining doors do not stand out at all. Through here, you can easily reach the office space, a cupboard with double doors and a toilet. The connection between the two levels, the staircase, was redesigned with Greek balustrades in mind. That is why it was given a white colour, which is also found in the kitchen and contrasts with the wood in the entrance hall. In the living area, there is a library in black-tinted teak veneer. The master bedroom swaps the more pronounced colours for rather nude shades and ash-coloured curtains. To ensure that there was a high degree of unity among the different rooms, the entire floor was renovated in natural oak parquet. In this project, Studiovlach tried to orchestrate a meeting between the old and the new. This mission was accomplished with flying colours, because the new look of the apartment combines an authentic basis with a contemporary interpretation. The result communicates a specific style that is continued throughout the entire apartment.
