For Imagicasa, living close to the coast means anything but a wooden cabin. With JD House, architecture and design studio Arthur Casas shows what living with a sea view can mean. This spacious house not only has an impressive layout, but also ensures an everlasting holiday feeling.
JD House is located on the coast of São Paulo, Brazil and overlooks Baleia Beach. With this project, studio Arthur Casas fulfilled the wishes of a family of six that regularly entertains friends and has a great love of the coast. Their wish was to live in a spacious and open construction that at the same time had the necessary private areas and a strong connection with the natural environment. The result did not disappoint, as JD House is a beautiful sand-coloured home that nestles effortlessly among the lush green vegetation around it. By means of a well thought-out architectural play of lines, the team was able to involve the surroundings inside and have the interior and exterior reach out to each other. At the front of the house, a spacious veranda and an outdoor swimming pool allow you to enjoy the landscape to the maximum. A characteristic feature of JD House is the large span in the living area that rests on a single pillar. This has created a maximum sense of space and openness. In addition, the living space has different ceiling heights, which gives the room an extra dimensional appearance. The centre of the room has a double ceiling height and is where a skylight lets in an immense amount of light that illuminates the nearby white wall. The grandiose wooden staircase also attracts a lot of attention, as it connects all three floors and sets the tone for the entire home. Furthermore, the living space has normal ceiling heights, so that a cosy and inviting atmosphere is created. On the ground floor you will also find a dining room, a game room, a home cinema, a spa and two guest suites with a private garden. On the upper floor, there are four suites and a master suite that overlooks the beach from the front of the house. Therefore, this home has an impressive amount of space in which the family can spend both time together and private moments.

Studio Arthur Casas decided to install a minimalist interior and, in the process, chose furniture pieces that, with their neutral colours, give nature a voice inside. Also important was the composition of an extensive palette of textures. By choosing stone, wood, linen, metal, velvet and silk, among others, the team achieved a layering that is effortlessly on the same frequency as outside nature. The furniture is a considered mix of national design and imported pieces. As for the flooring, the same material, limestone Mont Dore stone, was used throughout. Another recurring element is oak: you will find it in the ceilings and the staircase, for example. The exterior of the house was also composed with a critical eye. The brick façade is not only easy to maintain but can also produce a dynamic appearance. The team achieved the latter by giving each floor a different tone of beige with the aim of highlighting the volume of the house. The residents of JD House fully enjoy two things every day: their magnificent home and the proximity of a beautiful beach. Inside, you are amazed by the impressive architecture and the great effect that the overall design has on every visitor. For Arthur Casas, living by the beach is a luxurious yet serene endeavour, and we appreciate that. Want to get enchanted by more impressive projects and inspiring architecture?
