The three levels of this house almost appear to float above each other. Here in Cape Town, South Africa VDHDW Architects and interior designer Jaun Van Wyk developed an impressive building that takes geometry and runs with it. Our partner Spectrum was asked to make these dreamy visualisation images. We are confident that our readers are going to be impressed as well.
Intimacy and unlimited freedom meet here like old friends. The lower slopes of Signal Hill house this beautiful design, where vast views totally benefit the local topography. Considering that the essence of the layout revolves around the daily rituals, the result immediately reminds of a home that, despite the size, feels cosy. Next to this, geometry was a central matter; in a simple yet thoughtful way, shapes were elevated to an innovative aspect. In some places, the different levels seem to be floating, and they contain several inviting nooks. Throughout the entire home you have a phenomenal view outward, either from the numerous terraces or through the gigantic windows.

The Atlantic Ocean steadily enters the inside space because the fresh air fills every corner of the home almost unnoticeably. Furthermore, the incoming light dances in varied patterns over the floors, walls, and even the smallest of interior details. The warmth of the sun is reflected in the colours that the materials take on throughout the course of the day. Next to the aesthetic and materialisation, a lot of attention was of course spent on the layout. On the main floor, friends and family can gather in an abundance of space, whereas the bedrooms on the upper floor are lucky to be nearby small indoor gardens. Besides, the stairs that connects the different floors is a true spectacle on its own. With floating steps, it strengthens the overall idea of airiness and, at the same time, leaves a sculptural impression. With these clear yet imaginative visualisations, Spectrum extensively communicated what VDHDW Architects and Jaun Van Wyk wanted to achieve together. We are more than impressed by the geometric interplay that is created here and look forward to the next time that our partner translates a design to a complete image.
