Converting old concrete wine tanks into luxury suites? It seems almost an absurd undertaking. Yet, that is exactly what happened at Dexamenes Seaside Hotel Kourouta, in Peloponnese, Greece. When the hotel was built on an old industrial site, K-Studio decided to preserve the raw beauty of the existing buildings. Through elegant interventions, the concrete tanks were nevertheless given a high-end look. The result is simply astonishing.
In the early 20th century, the concrete tanks on the coastline were built to store wine for overseas export. When they no longer served this purpose and had to make way for a luxury coastal hotel, K-Studio made a surprising decision. Wanting to preserve the special history of the site, the shabby tanks were not demolished, but transformed into sumptuous rooms. Around them, the studio constructed new buildings from the same materials, namely concrete, steel, wood and glass. Of course, elegant interventions were made in the construction, in order to achieve a high-end look. For example, they added a cosy reception area, an enclosed garden, a lounge and a shallow swimming pool. In addition, two stone annexes were transformed into a restaurant and a space to hold events.
Here, art, history and luxury melt together under the burning sun.
When you enter the Dexamenes Seaside Hotel Kourouta, you are welcomed into a cool pavilion that serves as a reception area. Here, you will find an artistic exhibition of the hotel's industrial past, and a boutique offering handmade linen beachwear. Behind it are the enclosed gardens and terraces, where you can relax in style and comfort. Your attention is quickly drawn to the two concrete blocks of tanks, which now serve as four luxurious rooms. They are separated by a refreshing shallow pool, which you can cross via concrete stepping stones. There are also rooms that give out onto the courtyard, and rooms that enjoy a beautiful sea view. They are connected by a wide promenade path along the beach, which can also be used for romantic evening strolls. If you are looking for a unique place to stay at a sunny location, the Greek Dexamenes Seaside Hotel Kourouta is the perfect match. Here, art, history and luxury melt together under the hot sun. What more could you ask for?
