- Interior
For the first time, Yuangu Yunjing presented a commercial space in the city of Chengdu, which therefore has great significance for the brand. It was, in other words, very important to create a design that impresses from the very first moment. In this space, which combines a restaurant and a store, you experience an extreme sense of calm.
For this project, the interior designers at Wuzhi Design followed a design process that is strongly based on memories. The store’s entrance is located on the second floor, while the main commercial area is on the third floor. The two parts are connected by a long staircase, which looks mysterious and is long and narrow. To highlight the characteristics of Yuangu, old stone and wood were chosen to enhance the quality of the facade. When you enter this space, you seem to enter a kind of meditation room that gives a sense of security. Despite the slightly darker colours, there is still plenty of daylight. This space calls for being more in touch with nature, and that is achieved by drawing nature inside as much as possible.
Form is above all the result of design and not necessarily a goal that is pursued
The building is divided into three parts. The first part consists of the kitchen and private rooms, the second part is the bar, courtyard and seating area, and in the third part you will find the lobby, which maintains a special relationship with the central courtyard. The lobby is relatively independent and a quiet place to relax for a while, which is largely due to the water fountain in the space. To enhance the serene wabi sabi ambience, materials such as elm wood, bamboo, granite, concrete ground, brown artificial coating, cotton and linen curtains were chosen. After the restaurant and store opened, the interior designers were asked about their design inspiration for the project, a question they always find difficult to answer. For them, form is above all the result of design and not necessarily a goal that is pursued. Furthermore, they try to approach designs mainly in a rational way, by looking at for example streamlining, sustainable aspects, improving space use, and so on. A project is successful only when all these elements are balanced. Furthermore, the team relied on three key words: simple, natural and warm. By combining a store and a restaurant in one space, you already get an overall experience. This idea is reinforced by creating an atmosphere of tranquillity throughout the project, to which guests will often want to return.
