bulthaup kitchens and living spaces are places where people meet, relax and feel at home. It is a place where their customers can be creative and experience how wonderful it is to create something with their own hands. We would like to take you to one of their most recent projects Mas Les Comelles with stunning views over La Vall d'en Bas in the volcanic Garrotxa Natural Park in Girona, Spain.
Mas Les Comelles is located in the impressive, volcanic Garrotxa Natural Park in Girona. Owner and creator Marc Casals, together with his family, welcomes guests and immediately makes them feel at home. ‘In this sublime setting, only simplicity and authenticity highlight the real beauty of things,’ we hear from Casals. He himself led the transformation of his farmhouse, reinterpreting the architecture, materials and authentic objects into an aesthetic and sensory concept, in dialogue with its natural surroundings. The residence now consists of nine flats, each with a kitchen and a bathroom. The bulthaup interior designers collaborated on the thorough renovation. They were able to integrate the bulthaup furniture stylishly and coherently into this rustic environment. The kitchens, solitary furniture and accessories entered into a particularly harmonious and practical dialogue with the stones and wood that have been here for six centuries. ‘The collaboration with bulthaup created a serene dialogue with all the noble materials already present, which connected past and avant-garde,’ we hear from the owner. One of the nostalgic workshops was transformed into a kitchen with an easily movable bench and table from the bulthaup b Solitaire collection, made of solid oak. Here, the owner traditionally cooks over a large hearth fire.
A serene dialogue with all the noble materials already present
Marc Casals orchestrated the constantly evolving transformations of the farm's environment and architecture, by conceptually and aesthetically reinterpreting the environments, materials and objects. His vision and creative work, craftsmanship, design and engineering, also encourage meditation. Thus, people and experience are very central to him. He also invites his guests to mindfulness. The philosophy that underpinned Mas Les Comelles life is now gathered in the cultural project called 'El Gorg'. This is a humanist alliance that focuses on the art of living, personal development, participation and awareness. ‘Those who buy a kitchen nowadays think not only about the object, beautiful surfaces and clear lines, but above all about a place where one feels good and can be happy with loved ones. In doing so, we notice a strong intrinsic desire for simplicity,’ says Marc O. Eckert. As thoughtful and frangible as the solid German brand's designs are, they are also warm, convey comfort and are meant for life.
The renovation always respected the past of this farmhouse, preserving spaces that take us back to the days when the activity was agricultural. The easily movable bulthaup b2 system bench and chest make it possible to create a kitchen in any room, in this case in a room originally used for farm work. Marc cultivates the art of cooking, where good materials and organic ingredients are essential. Here, the bulthaup b2 system bench with pepper and salt set made of walnut and porcelain kitchen utensils are an ideal complement. It's as if Casals couldn't find a better match than bulthaup. ‘The company's furniture fits stylishly and coherently into the rustic surroundings of the farmhouse, and perfectly matches the ideas behind my life project. The kitchens, furniture and accessories of the family-run company are highly functional and engage in a serene conversation with the noble materials already present,’ he tells us. Thus, his philosophy goes beyond pure cooking. He is focused on cultivating the culinary art, guided by a few essential principles: using organic ingredients, because they signal the authenticity and simple beauty of things, and working out an experience of place, promoting synergies between the tangible and intangible.
‘In my opinion, good equipment, such as that offered by bulthaup, is essential, especially if it contributes to a harmonious symbiosis between objects and architecture,’ he concludes. One thing is certain: the Casals Barris family, owners of the farmhouse, will welcome its guests very warmly as if they were in their own home.
