Today, we introduce you to the creative craftsmen at Roll&Hill who specialise in exclusive, quality lighting fixtures. Their business model is just as interesting as the work they produce. They collaborate with some of the world’s most exciting independent designers to create their beautiful pieces. Each and every one is made-to-order, produced at their headquarters in Sunset Park, Brooklyn and customised to the needs of their clients.
Roll&Hill was founded in 2010 by Jason Miller. With experience as a designer and producer, he sought out to harness the talent of independent designers while simultaneously offering them (and us) the benefits of a boutique studio. They boast an impressive roster of designers like Bec Britton, Phillip Malouin and Lindsey Edelman as well as design duos and studios like Fornafantasma and Ladies & Gentlemen Studio. With the amount of minds at work and the individuality of each collection, their aesthetic is impressively cohesive.
Each piece is assembled by hand, one lamp at a time
Each piece is assembled by hand, one lamp at a time. Working with a rich material palette — brass, bronze, leather, wood, hand-knotted rope, mouth-blown glass — they strive for quality. Their pieces are somehow both fresh and timeless. In their words, they ‘often pair historical elements with contemporary forms to create lights that feel familiar, yet totally new.’
Their business model is just as interesting as the work they produce
And soon they’ll be branching out beyond lighting into furniture design. Earlier this year, Roll&Hill announced the acquisition of 75-year-old Alexis Manufacturing Company. Miller was looking to expand his operation and already fondly familiar with the Michigan company, sourcing wood from them for their lighting. It was meant to be. Imagicasa cannot wait to see what’s to come for Roll&Hill.
