New York will always have a certain X-factor that no place can match. In Manhattan, interior designer Christina Loucks was able to confirm this with her New York City loft. By incorporating a Scandinavian influence into the design, the result is a unique space that can seduce any metropolitan.
Christina Loucks also lives in New York and runs her own creative consultancy where she focuses on interior design and related disciplines such as brand strategy and creative production. She used her extensive skills to transform an office space in a loft in Manhattan, near Madison Square Park, to give it a more residential and softer feel. More specifically, it concerned designing an office space for a woman-owned business. The building in question has twelve floors and nine residential units, dating back to 1912. Previously, the loft was mostly empty, except for a meeting room, a kitchenette and toilets. When Loucks completed the property, the approximately 280 square metres included a head office, a flexible space for additional offices, a reception area, a merchant's area, a meeting room and a kitchen and dining area.
The view of the fire escapes and nearby buildings enhances the metropolitan character of the office.
The main challenge was the period in which the project took place. Work started in February 2020, just before the first wave of Covid-19. This, of course, had significant implications for the entire process, from deliveries being delayed to remote working. Although it took a lot of work, the result is definitely worth it. Importantly, Loucks decided to work as much as possible with natural tones and curved lines, so that the interior would have an elegance and calm without looking stereotypically feminine. Another prominent presence is a Scandinavian influence, which is evident for example in the heavy use of natural white oak. In this way, the interior designer wanted to create an open and seamless feeling in the room. In addition, Loucks often chose natural wool for the upholstery. The final result allows different spaces and elements to flow into each other effortlessly. In addition, there is a warm and inviting feeling to it. Loucks also took care of the details with a selective eye, placing them with great care without creating an overly residential impression. Although natural daylight is perhaps the best detail, as the huge windows let in a wonderful dose of light. The view of the fire escapes and nearby buildings simultaneously enhances the metropolitan character of the office. Working in an interior like this therefore becomes a great pleasure and an experience that transcends the merely professional.
With her New York City loft space, Christina Loucks has designed an inviting office with an urban backbone. The feminine touches throughout the loft have exactly the strength they need, and the client is sure to have the space she needs with this design.
