We love homes that combine the best of the present with respect for the past. In Valencia, you can find a perfect example of this, namely the Avenida del Oeste apartment by Balzar Arquitectos, located in the historic Ciutat Vella district. The location functioned as a stepping stone in the design process, proving to be ideal for blending tradition and modernity.
The apartment as an area of 205 square metres and consists of three separate zones. Upon entering, you find yourself in a spacious hallway that leads to the office, the gym and a shared bathroom. The central living space includes the kitchen, living room and dining room, and differentiates these areas only by the placement of furniture. Because of this, there is a sense of openness in this space, as well as a continuity that makes it a balanced whole. On top of that, you have the best views of the whole house here, and the dining room has a curved ceiling. This contributes to the feeling of unity in the living space. As for the kitchen, you have everything you could possibly need. The kitchen appliances have been neatly integrated so that the space looks tidy at all times.
At the end of the house is the master bedroom, with ensuite bathroom and dressing room. The bed was made to measure and is surrounded on both sides by cupboards in which columns and lighting have been incorporated. In this way, bedside tables are created at the same time. The lighting, as in the other rooms, can be controlled with an app and is intended to bathe the room in a warm and cosy light. The adjoining bathroom is made of natural black marble and can be closed off from the bedroom with large sliding panels. There is a large shower and a large washbasin with two sinks. An additional advantage is that the toilet can be converted into a separate room. Spending time in these rooms is accompanied by luxury that is calming rather than over-stimulating.
The past has the power to inspire the future.
The past has the power to inspire the future. In this case, we see that the former ornamental cupboards on the inside of the house reappear in the milky-white lacquered wood panelling. This not only gives a nod to the bygone years, but also proves to be a clever way of creating structure and storage space. Also important in terms of layout are the skirting and mouldings. They connect the different rooms to each other and create harmony in the house. The continuity in the house is also the result of the authentic materials used, such as marble and wood. Furthermore, a warm palette of cream and brownish tones was chosen and applied in both dark and light ways. These colours work in harmony with the orange details, such as the burning fireplace. With the Avenida del Oeste apartment, Balzar Arquitectos have created a beautiful residential project that will undoubtedly be a long-term home for the young couple for whom it was designed. Harmony, details and balance, those are the things that inspire us here.
