- Interior
In this residence, which was designed by the Belgian SKIN Interior Design & Architecture, a light blue shade forms the personal addition to the interior. The residents were looking for charm and a holiday home that was not like all others, and they certainly found that here.
Empathy is a characteristic that according to interior architect Jelke De Mey is crucial in her job. While listening to her clients, she pays for example attention to the frustrations they are now experiencing in their house, and to their way of living. On the basis of that information, the designer creates a home that perfectly suits those needs and wishes. The practical side of things certainly is not forgotten, because the aim is of course to remove all obstacles the client is experiencing in their current home. A recurring element in each project are warm materials such as marble, veneer wood, and parquet. For years, the owners of this house had been looking for a second home with character. They did not just want a standard house or apartment in Knokke, Belgium, but were seeking charm most of all. They eventually found that in this residence, where they fell in love with the blue windows. This light blue shade had to recur subtly throughout the rest of the interior and can now be found in a number of accent walls and in the bathroom cabinets. Next to that, the owners only had one other request. They specifically wanted to use the authentic tiles you now find in the bathroom and kitchen and adapt the rest of the interior accordingly. For SKIN Interior, this was not a difficult task, and she designed a whole in which the blue tiles fully come into their own.

The house contains four floors, each with their own function. In the basement, you encounter a mudroom with a shower and a bath, while the ground floor consists of the living space with kitchen and living room. On the first floor, two bathrooms and two bedrooms are located. The second floor may be the most impressive one of all, because it has a tower room with bathroom and office. There, a custom-made mattress was used that you can reach via steps and from where you have a stunning view of the city. An interesting fact is that from this semi-detached house, a second residence was built with the same base. After their long search, the residents of this holiday home received a soothing interior with a special touch they will be able to enjoy for a long time to come.
